Volunteer
AAFC is a volunteer-led organization and we are always looking for interested participants. As we grow, and as the needs in Frederick County grow, there will be an even greater need for citizen advocacy and action.

Attend Monthly Meetings
Board meetings are held on the first Friday of the month both in-person and virtually. A member of the Board of Directors will get back to you as soon as possible.
Support Our Programming
Advocates is supported through the generous contributions of individuals, businesses and charitable foundations. Your tax-deductible gifts can be designated to support any part of our ongoing work:
General Support for Operations
Operating support assists with the costs of bookkeeping, audits, supplies, maintaining a post office box and our website. These functions are critical to maintaining our public advocacy and special programs.
The Donald L. Lewis AERS Fund
The AERS Fund supports unfunded AERS client needs for equipment and services that help Frederick County residents age in place. AERS (Adult Evaluation and Referral Services) nurses and social workers encounter many needs that their low-income clients cannot afford to fill and insurance doesn’t cover – sometimes a need as simple as orthotics to help a senior walk better, or perhaps a much larger expense, such as a specialty wheelchair or a prosthesis. A gift to the AERS Fund can make a world of difference!
In 2019, the Advocates Board named the AERS Fund for Donald L. Lewis, a well-known Frederick County businessman and public servant who remembered AAFC in his estate plans.
Geriatric Medical Education Fund
Each year, AAFC provides scholarship support for Frederick Health medical staff to attend the three-day Current Topics in Geriatrics continuing education course at Johns Hopkins Medical School’s division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology. In return for financial support, participants agree to share what they learn with peers throughout the Frederick Health System. With this support, Advocates is working to help our local healthcare system be more responsive to the needs of seniors and to increase proactive efforts to help seniors age in place, maintain independence, and be full partners in their healthcare.
We would be happy to talk with you about these tax-deductible giving opportunities or about other specific interests you may wish to support. Gifts may be made by mailing a check or online. Go to our Donations page for more information. To make a gift of stock or other investment instruments, or to discuss estate planning or gifts to our endowment fund held at The Community Foundation of Frederick County, please send us an email at advocatesforaging@gmail.com, or complete the CONTACT form. A member of the Board of Directors will get back to you as soon as possible.
